We have finished the majority of our 1300 and some odd students vision and hearing screening. We have a few left to retest. Most of the letters to parents for referrals have been sent home, but a few will be sent this week. We have a new visual screening device that is more diagnostic, and there were fewer referrals this year. It is the best screener on the market and we feel very lucky the district purchased this for us. If you have any questions regarding your students test results, please don't hesitate to call the nurse in their building or me at the Wellness Center.
In case you didn't know, August is National Breastfeeding month. We encourage all new mothers to breastfeed. It does so many great things for your baby, beyond just feeding them.
We are still working on getting the dental office open. Hopefully by the middle of September. Remember, we want to see you in our clinic. Please consider changing your PCP to us. We would love to be your families access to health care. The school nurses are working hard to get all the paperwork out to parents and turned back in. If you haven't sent your school health paperwork back, please do so as soon as possible It's everyone's job to stop child abuse and neglect! Certain groups are mandated by law to report abuse or neglect, but every Arkansan if required. For more information click on the following website link:
Stop Arkansas Child Abuse - Arkansas Child Abuse Prevention Nobody wants to feel this way. If your having these issues or others, I have found a good website that can help. You can see what others have found to help or ask a question of the therapist. Remember your not alone. There is always someone you can talk to. I'm available, as well as your building nurse's or counselors. As parents, we need to remember it's our job to raise our children to be healthy, happy, responsible adults and we can't do that if we are the one belittling or ridiculing that child. Remember, words hurt and can't be taken back.
http://psychcentral.com/ We are pleased to announce a new service added to the Wellness Center. We will have dental services for the students soon. The School Board approved bids for equipment at last night's meeting and the order was placed this morning. The name of the dentist and hours of operations will be announced at a later date. We are so excited to bring this new addition to our children.
Learning how to do a blog is harder than I thought it would be! So everyone be patient with me.
I have some ideas of different things I want to discuss on the blog, but I will be open to suggestions also. First, a disclaimer. I cannot give medical advice. So if you have a specific question about a health issue you or a family member are having, please see your family doctor, or come to the clinic and our APN Sallie Hampton will be happy to see you. My plan is to educate, inform, and hopefully amuse, while I learn how to do this. |
